Round-up of 2012 so far
Since Richard got the Pedometer (and then learnt how to use it!) on 2nd April 2012, the “Three Amigo’s” have managed 16 walks. This is a summary of the 2012 summer season so far…
Across the 16 walks we have notched up 186.9 miles of walking averaging 2.6 miles per hour. However, occasionally we manage a burst of speed – typically when approaching coffee or ale – and the pedometer shows that on 3rd Sept we hit 9.8 mph and on 22nd Oct we managed 11.3 mph in such bursts!
These walks have engaged us in 72.5 hrs of walking where we burnt up 22,800 calories each at the rate of 5.2 calories per minute.
During this time we climbed up 25,307 feet and sank down 25,025 feet – so somewhere we are 282 feet up in the air!
Whilst we spent the 72.5 hours out in the open, the pesky machine also monitors “Active Time” and it shows us that we were actually walking for 70.7 hours. Or put another way, we had just under 2 hours of “Rest Time”. Considering the 16 walks we took, this averages out at only 6.7 minutes in the pub each walk – surely a record! (actually we quickly learnt to switch the damn machine to standby during rest breaks so that it couldn’t measure our down-time!).
Over the series of walks our average speed has been pretty consistent never dropping below 2.4 mph and only once hitting 3.0 mph average. Our longest walk was 15.6 miles and typically most walks fell around the 12 to 14 mile length. We never managed to break the 2,000 calorie barrier although we got very close to it on the 15.6 miler.
