Knole Park - 29th October 2012
Once more the weather forecasters didn't know their sphincter from their synovial hinge joint. They forecast the previous evening as rain all morning but possibly breaking up to showers in the afternoon so we didn't plan a long walk and imagined we might start with a pub lunch and then walk for a few hours in the afternoon. We chose Knole because it was shorter - about 5 miles - and not too wet under foot. As it happened we woke to sunshine with no rain forecast so we set off at 10-30 and enjoyed a lovely bright autumn day.Knole House was originally built for the Archbishop of Canterbury in the 1450's and it is surrounded by a massive 1,000 acre Deer Park which is ideal for walking. Our plan was to roughly navigate the circumference of the park and approx half-way round we had identified a pub that seemed worth a stop. As it happens we overshot the path that would have taken us to the Pub but it didn't matter because we had made good time and a mile or so further on we hit the edge of Sevenoaks Town and had a host of hostelries to choose from. We chose The Sennokian which apparently is what people from Sevenoaks are called!
Walking through the park was not only very pretty at this time of year but mostly we were walking on short grass which was kind to the feet. And of course, being a deer park we saw deer! Overall, a very nice walk.
Here are a selection of photos of the day.
